Alumni and Friends of the Department of Economics,
Northwestern has now completed its academic year, culminating with our June graduation ceremonies. The campus is quiet, with students and faculty scattered around the world. I’m writing to update you on developments of the past six months in the Department of Economics.

In May, the Department of Economics celebrated Professor Robert "Bob" Gordon in advance of his retirement from the department after over 51 years of service.
In January, Professor Kirabo Jackson spoke with IPR Director Andrew V. Papachristos about Jackson's time on the White House Council of Economic Advisors.
Congratulations to the class of 2025! This year we celebrated with a senior awards ceremony including remarks from Professors Mark Witte, Rob Porter, James Hornsten, and Robert Coen.
Our undergraduate students have accomplished a great deal this year, including alumni talks, financial literacy outreach, workshops, and the largest Northwestern Economics Tournament to date.
We wish all of our graduate students success as they continue their teaching and research pursuits at fine institutions and firms throughout the world.
Our department is looking forward to welcoming our incoming class to the Ph.D. program in the fall!

The Department has many exciting events happening this fall including a conference on Econometrics organized by Professor Eric Auerbach on September 19-20, 2025, the annual Susan Bies Lecture on Economics and Public Policy featuring Nobel laureate Michael Kremer from The University of Chicago on November 4, 2025, and The Erwin Plein Nemmers Prize in Economics conference featuring 2024 recipient Michael Woodford from Columbia University on November 6-8, 2025.
