Ian Savage's research has been concentrated in two areas: urban public transportation and transportation safety. He has published widely on the economics of mass transit finances and regulatory oversight. His safety research has dealt with the valuing of human life, and with understanding the economic rationale for and the effectiveness of safety regulations. He has served on the executive committees of local, national and international professional organizations on transportation research.
