Abi Adams (Applied Micro, Labor)
Abi Adams joins the Department of Economics as a Professor of Economics in Fall 2025. Dr. Adams was most recently the Nuffield Professor of Economics in the Department of Economics at the University of Oxford.
Dr. Adams is a Labor and Applied Microeconomist with research interests across three main areas: (i) the economic causes and consequences of gender-based violence; (ii) the supply of, and demand for, job flexibility; (iii) the identification of behavioral models of decision-making in observational data or through strategic survey instruments. Dr. Adams is keen to maximize the impact of economic research in wider society. She was awarded the UK Economic and Social Research Council Outstanding Impact in Public Policy Prize and the O2RB Impact Prize.
Chiara Sotis (Behavioral,Environmental, Health)
Chiara Sotis joins the Department of Economics as an Assistant Professor of Instruction in Fall 2025 after working as a Fellow at the London School of Economics and Political Science where she also received her PhD.
Dr. Sotis's research lies at the intersection of behavioral, environmental, and health economics. She designs theory-informed experiments and surveys to study how individuals process information and form policy preferences. She is interested in cognitive economics and how people can better understand and use complex information to make better decisions. Dr. Sotis collaborates with the OECD's SWACHE working group and her economic valuation studies have directly informed international organizations and policy changes in the EU. She has a strong interest in teaching (micro)economics and enjoys encouraging students to think about how and if economic models apply in practice.
