Schapiro Gift Spotlight

Directed by Professor Abi Adams, The Morton Schapiro Center for Applied Economics fuels innovative research made possible by the power of advanced computing and big data.
Endowed through a generous gift from the Ryan Family, the Center was established to foster and expand innovative, data-driven research with real-world impact. The Center is a community of scholars committed to advancing applied economics across the fields of Health, Education, Labor, and Public Economics. The Center provides resources and support for Northwestern faculty and students engaged in tackling today’s most pressing social and economic challenges.
At the Morton Schapiro Center for Applied Economics, faculty and students engage in rigorous inquiry and intellectual debate. Students learn to access, analyze, and interpret large, intricate data sets and present findings that further their understanding of the economy. The assessment of real-world situations by world-class scholars can directly improve policy analysis in areas such as health, labor, crime, and the workings of the political system. The center spurs collaboration among teams of undergraduate and graduate students, pre- and post-docs, and faculty from across the University and around the globe. Additionally, it funds conferences and seminars featuring eminent leaders in the field that will leverage Northwestern’s position at the epicenter of discussions across business, law, education, engineering, and economics.
The Department of Economics extends its deepest appreciation to the Ryan Foundation for its unwavering support and generosity.
