Undergraduate Spotlight
Undergraduate Student Groups
Our student groups worked tirelessly this year to host a wide range of events for both Northwestern students and their local community. The Department is very proud of the time and effort our student group leaders put forth to provide an outstanding experience for their peers and the community.
CPS Financial Literacy Outreach (CPS FLO)
Chicago Public Schools Financial Literacy Outreach was incredibly active in winter and spring quarters of 2026, teaching fourteen weekly classes on financial literacy at five schools throughout the Chicagoland area. With the support of the Department of Economics, student teachers were able to travel in person to schools to teach lessons on taxes, borrowing & credit, budgeting, and more, fostering strong and trusted relationships with their school partners. Congratulations, CPS FLO, on a very successful year of your important work!
Northwestern Economics Tournament (NET)
NET held its ninth annual tournament on April 4, 2026, hosting 21 in-person teams from high schools throughout the United States. This year, all events were held on one day, and students completed in person Power Round exams before going head to head in the always exciting Econ Bowl. Participants were led through a lively activity on game theory and were treated to lectures by Department of Economics faculty Profs. Mark Witte, and Abi Adams. Never idle for long, preparations have already begun for NET 2027.

Undergraduate Economic Society (UES)
The Undergraduate Economic Society started off 2026 with a full house for their panel on “Navigating Future Career Paths.” Current economics students spoke about their internship and work experiences and provided insights into finding the right position. UES co-hosted two Feed Your Mind lunch and learn seminars with the Department of Economics. In February, Prof. Eddie Dekel led a Feed Your Mind on “Mindfulness, Meditation, and Mental Health.” In April, Prof. Lori Beaman led a Feed Your Mind where she discussed her research on "Sexual Harassment in Urban India: Prevalence and an Intervention."
Womxn in Economics presented a robust year of programming, beginning with an alumni panel in February. The panel featured recent alums Katie Daehler '21, Margot Amouyal '25, Emma Chiu '24, and Madeleine Foutes '23 who spoke about their career paths that included Alexander Group, the U.S. Department of the Treasury, Walmart Economics, and Harvard Law School, respectively. WiE continued by hosting a number of faculty talks with Economics faculty including Profs. Chiara Sotis, Lori Beaman, and Molly Schnell in April. In May, WiE hosted a panel on graduate studies in economics featuring current Economics Ph.D. students Vaidehi Parameswaran, Daniela Borja Arriaga, Ramya Raghavan, Myera Rashid, Radhika Ramakrishnan '26, and Lara Sanchez Pena. To finish off a successful academic year, Womxn in Economics was awarded a Student Philanthropy Council Award in June.
