It has been a busy and exciting time for our faculty. Wherever you look, department faculty can be found sharing their research on timely and important issues from tariffs to climate change, racial disparities in healthcare and education, and much more. The work done tirelessly by our faculty is more important than ever for deepening global economic understanding and informing policy. Lori Beaman

Lori Beaman was recently spotlighted in a video from Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences discussing the field of economics at Northwestern and how she was led to development economics while studying chemical engineering as an undergraduate.

Louis Cain

Louis Cain was inducted into the Economic History Association’s 2025 class of the Society of Fellows.

Martin Eichenbaum

Martin Eichenbaum spoke to ABC News in April about discrepencies between federal tariffs and the economics that supposedly supports them.

Prof. Eichenbaum also spoke with Northwestern Now about the tension between the President and Federal Reserve Chair.

Benjamin Golub

In December, Benjamin Golub presented a virtual seminar at Princeton University's Bendheim Center for Finance where he spoke about his start-up Refine.ink, an AI tool to generate referee-style feedback to academic papers, identifying errors in math and empirical strategy, clarity problems, and consistency issues.

Kirabo Jackson

In October, Kirabo Jackson’s research was the subject of an article by the Fordham Institute discussing the role of school principals in education administration.

Prof. Jackson's research on the causes behind lower student test scores was featured in the New York Times. He also spoke with Minnesota Public Radio about "how a bathtub can help us understand what’s happening in the labor market."

Elisa Jácome

Elisa Jácome received a 2025 Early Career Research Award from the Upjohn Institute. Prof. Jácome was among ten honorees, recognized for her proposal, Understanding the Decline in Male Employment.

Diego Känzig

In a January 2026 article from The Wall Street Journal, Diego Känzig discusses the relationship (or lack thereof) between tariffs and inflation.

In August, Prof. Känzig’s work on the Economic Impact of Climate Change was featured in Harvard Magazine and in April his research on the economics impacts of climate change was featured in an article by The Cool Down.

Dean Karlan

In April, Dean Karlan discussed foreign aid, soft power, and "doing the right thing" with Northwestern Now.

Charles Manski

Charles Manski delivered the 2025 Solari Lecture at the Geneva School of Economics and Management.

Joel Mokyr

In addition to Joel Mokry’s outstanding Nobel Prize honor, Prof. Mokyr also co-authored a new book, “Two Paths to Prosperity: Culture and Institutions in Europe and China, 1000–2000” available now through Princeton University Press.

Mar Reguant

Mar Reguant was featured as keynote speaker at inaugural Toronto Meeting on the Economics of Climate Change.

Matthew Rognlie

Matthew Rognlie was awarded a prestigious Sloan Fellowship as part of the 2025 cohort, an honor that highlights the creativity, innovation and research accomplishments of early-career researchers.

Ian Savage

In this brand-new article from The Conversation, Ian Savage speaks about safety concerns with South Florida’s Brightline train and its unfortunate history of pedestrian fatalities.

Molly Schnell

Molly Schnell and PhD student Max Pienkny, along with department affiliate Prof. Hannes Schwandt, were the subject of a research feature from Northwestern’s Institute for Policy Research (IPR), discussing their work on the lasting impact of school shootings on students' mental health.

In another IPR feature, Prof. Schnell discussed her research on racial differences in deliveries.

Joshua Sherman

Joshua Sherman was selected as Charles River Associates vice president within antitrust and competition practice.

Christopher Udry

Christopher Udry and Dean Karlan shared key takeaways from 115 studies on unconditional cash transfers in Ideas for India.
