Letter from the chair
The year since I last wrote to you as members of the Northwestern Economics community has indeed been an eventful one. Civil unrest, pandemic, and political turmoil have all been part of our daily lives. As I'm writing this, rioters have stormed the U.S. Capitol and are battling police in the building's rotunda. With all this going on around us, it might seem trivial to some for me to report on developments in our Department. But I disagree with that perspective -- I believe that our work has, if anything, taken on even greater urgency in the current context.
Alumni Spotlight
This fall we invited seven alumnae to share their perspectives and stories with Eric Schulz’s Introduction to Microeconomics class. The alumnae discussed their diverse career paths, the complexities of working in a gender skewed field, and learning from mistakes.
Podcast Recommendations

We are excited to host more virtual events in 2021! Ivan Canay will discuss his new paper, "On the Use of Outcome Tests for Detecting Bias in Decision Making" on Tuesday, February 9 at Noon CT. RSVP today! We will also have a talk on environmental economics, led by Seema Jayachandran and Mar Reguant, coming in Spring 2021.
