Undergraduate Spotlight

Undergraduate Student Groups
- Our student groups worked tirelessly this year to host a wide range of events for both Northwestern students and their local community. The Department is very proud of the time and effort our student group leaders put forth to provide an outstanding experience for their peers and the community.
- CPS Financial Literacy Outreach (CPS FLO)
- Chicago Public Schools Financial Literacy Outreach saw a significant expansion of their executive board this year to accommodate their increased programming load due to high demand from schools and community groups throughout Evanston and Chicago. CPS FLO's volunteer facilitators partnered with a number of local groups to present both in person and virtual programming that covers personal finance topics including credit cards, banking, paychecks & taxes, insurance, investing, and retirement. The group hopes to expand to even more schools in the 2025-26 academic year.
Northwestern Economics Tournament (NET)
- NET held its eighth annual tournament from April 5-6, 2025, hosting 24 in-person and 28 virtual teams from high schools throughout the United States and internationally. Teams tackled a challenging exam in the Power Round and sparred against each other in the nail-biting Econ Bowl. They demonstrated an impressive wealth of economics knowledge, from current events to complex game theory concepts. Additionally, Professors Mark Witte, Jonas Jin and Jeff Ely presented engaging lectures in their respective research fields, providing participants with a taste of Northwestern economics.
